it's been pretty fun and busy around here lately. i've been channeling my inner cook and enjoying every minute of it. i love using hearty recipes & love food. so the healthier the better and hey! if it tastes fantastic, win win. 

DIY mailbox

i went all crafty mccrafterson on the kids tonight. lou was playing with her madame alexander dolls and her ironing board - playing house - naturally. she came to me with her big blue eyes and requested a mailbox. "i just neeeeeed one momma" she proclaimed. i said, where am i going to find a mailbox tonight, it's bedtime in an hour??? she shrugged, like always, with that look on her face. hello mom! you figure it out. i just request these things.

at that moment a box that i have stashed in my closet from their birthday gifts popped into my head. it's the perfect shape! oh, and free. did i mention that tidbit?!? so i grabbed it out of the closet and grabbed the duct tape. tada! i got these kids a pretty chillin' mailbox. it took 10 minutes and i was like the bees knees. even made them some "mail". they've been playing fighting with it ever since. i'd say my work here is done. *brushes shoulder off*

 today was a gross rainy day. i can't believe the weather swings we've been experiencing. srsly mother nature get it together! we got 2ft of snow on friday & today it rained so much we no longer have snow. i see major problems with this & the roundhouse kick to the face feeling that i'm experiencing isn't helping. i'm ready to box shot mother nature where the sun doesn't shine.

the dood is five!

yep, you are reading this right. another year everyone comes to the realization that i was completely mentally unstable and my babies had the same due date. 1 year apart. of course lou needs the limelight - so much so that it bled into their now personalities that she graced us the day before her brothers first birthday.

today is the doods fifth birthday. i cannot believe it!! he spent most of the day at school with his peers and he requested a giant chocolate chip cookie cake to bring and share. so i delivered! it turned out great, the kids loved it, and he was the talk of the class. woo! point 1 for mom.

tonight he asked for homemade pizza (after a bacon fail) so i put good ol' betsy my beautiful yellow kitchenaid to work and made my first pizza dough - ever. roundhouse kicks and high fives people. success! couldn't have turned out better; next time? make it an hour or so earlier. oops! we ate late. but to no avail, i knocked'er outta the park. he got his cupcake and candle then bedtime we went! he still has school tomorrow. lol!

shocks me that five years ago i gave birth the most handsome heartbreaker the planet has ever encountered. i was blessed to have someone so special in my life. he is my man. my bees knees in life. couldn't have asked for a better kman, in the world. and he's my son. blessed!

Lou is four!

yesterday miss.louloubirdie turned four. hard to believe it's been four years since missy came flying into this world with a vengeance. the last year has been a fantastic year. she has come leaps & bounds with her growth and she's blossomed into a very mature, extremely intelligent, wise-beyond her years little pill. she's my firecracker. i can't wait to see what the next world brings.

carpe diem!

so imagine you're fooling around with a three year old. running around, wrestling in the halls, chasing each other, this is all hypothetically speaking, and you pretend to push her and she actually pushes you back. not expecting such force to come from a three year old you bail.

picture it: slow-mo. going down. definitely going to eat the carpet, skinning your legs, elbow, and whacking your head on the wall. all the while making some sort of behemoth, or equivalent, noise. just like a gigantor alien falling from the sky, slowly, crashing down to earth and making an ungodly sound. in the background the sound of a small birdie's voice giggling uncontrollably and squealing "MOMMMY DOWWWWN"!!

you're totally getting that this is completely hypothetical, right? this can't possibly happen to anyone, let alone me.

shh! my ego is completely broken. &well don't ask to see the war wounds i will not show you, ever. kapeesh?

not only did this scenario not happen, it was the beginning of the end. it paved the road right through dinner onto bedtime and afterwards. at least here i sit. could be worst, right?

walk into the bathroom tonight after the nuggets get into bed; tidying up the towels etc from their showers. still steamy. look up and to my horror this is what i see...

not creepy at all, is it? thankfully after i screeched like i was the first person to die in a horror film. running up the stairs while the bad guy chases me as opposed to being completely logical and running outside where there are people, maybe people that could help me.
i gave myself a pep talk:

okay stacey. get it together, man!
you're on the top floor of an apartment building. 
this is a completely flat wall. 
not to mention, it's on the driveway.
many people drive there constantly.
wait, if it IS a peeper. props! must be the new-age
spiderman. hells ya! 
i will reward them with peeping if they are in some way
heroic and have super stealth powers!

i'm okay. promise. took me a bit, but i think i have figured out that no, i am not being stalked by some creepy person. in fact, if you look closely - it's on the inside of the screen, which means. this is my hand.

well slap my ass and call me jenna jamieson, the firealarm is totally going off. so now i'm hopping OUT of the shower slathered in my lovely body wash, shampoo in my hair, me be starin' at the creepy hand print still in the window running down the hallway stark with a towel to unsound the alarm.

this could only be the prequel to my failing reality tv show turned movie, right?

all bets are off. this shit has gone craaazy.

don't worry. no small babies were scarred for life during these unfortunate events and i promise nobody was roundhouse kicked in their junk. although, karma for some reason is kicking me in the junk tonight and ya it got me good!

i'll let you know i am now happily vegged on the couch watching some good ol' boob tube and best of all -- safe from any mishaps from happening.

louloubirdie is obsessed with my mixer, she has now asked me for one for her birthday. i told her i'd buy her one when she moved out as a housewarming gift. geez, she has completely taken it over. but i guess i shouldn't complain, she's a great baker! how many three year olds do you know that knows most ingredients used in baking, can determine the different cups for measuring, and knows how to use the mixer even scraping the sides. i don't do much baking - i just assist her. it's great bonding time!

the brownies turned out delicious, minor fail on the 2-bite part. edible none-the-less.

it's monday.

well good evening, fancy meeting you back here again.

today was filled with a grumpy mommy moments. allergies have officially kicked my ass. &I am no longer able to be stronger than them. seriously they are taking over. this morning was started with a shot of nose spray in the eye and a mouth almost four year old. after some java i felt a bit better and then i slept most of the afternoon. my nuggets love their momma and watched a movie while i dozed. love these days. <3 at one point lou even tucked me in and i woke up to kohen rubbing my forehead *swoon*.

kohen is back to school tomorrow, woot! he is totally ready as am i. i like the consistent schedule and i think he's missing it as well. Also, lou and i get to have girly quiet time. i think baking is in order for tomorrow since i got nothing done today!

tonight was full of pizza eating, pj wearing, tv watching and boy was all of it fantastic. pretty sure we need these days sometimes.

of course, i didn't take a single picture today.

but, i forgot to share this beauty with you!

lunch time

on the bleubird blog, the lovely james is always posting her "kiddo lunches" and she inspired me to do more for kohen than the general everyday lunch that you see. full of packages and tons of boxes. she also introduced me to the goodbyn.

honestly? love at first sight. we got ours last week and it was the best investment i have ever made. srsly. 


so what's on the menu this week?

superfruits nutrigrain bar, laughing cow cheese, crackers, organic apple, ranch dip,
organic bunny grahams, hummus, pita bread, organic carrots. drink: v8 fusion strawberry banana

makin' it monday

found a fantastic recipe on pinterest for sugar cookies. 
what to do with this new knowledge?
make them, decorate them, and eat them - duh!

so that is exactly what we did.
finally a moist sugar cookie recipe & the frosting; pure awesome.

my mom & i headed to the bulk barn and loaded up on goodies to decorate the cookies.
had an awesome cookie decorating party.
they turned out fantastic.

hello kitty part-ay!

today lou was in her realm. talk about heaven for a little girl who wants to be nothing more in life than a hello kitty replica, purple bow & all. my nugget has been blessed with an affinity for all things hello kitty receiving that from none other than me. i diiiiiie. 

today was a treat and a half. lou &i descended upon a hello kitty birthday party for her *new* bff! what can i say? hello kitty + party + bff = one kick ass day for a special little lady. the decor was fabulous, i couldn't have planned it any better. the hello kitty flower pot full of cookies, pure awesome. &a day full of playing with other kids all by her lonesome stellar. lou's day was officially fantabulous! not to mention i was able to hang with other adults &we actually had adult conversations. the mentioning of the word peepee did not leave my lips once that i can remember. woo! i'd say that screams awesome!

when lou got home and opened her goody bag(s), yes plural, the gasps and abundance of joy was exciting to watch; i wish i had video taped it. alas, i did not, ah well she made out with a plethora of hello kitty gear & couldn't be happier.

lately....

lately we've been busy. but more than anything, i've been enjoying my time with lou, one on one. learning more & more about her. amazing what you miss out on when you have to share your attention between two children.

kmans in school!

kman is officially in jr. kindergarten and he report for the day was that he did fantastic. WOO! i cannot tell you how well-received that information was when she told me. minus being extremely tired he said it was an awesome day and he can't wait to go back. 

mommy did well, considering. he walked in there like he owned the place and didn't look back for reassurance, once. when other kids were sobbing - he was looking at them like um? what is wrong with you!? haha. i am so proud! i just hope that he keeps up the enthusiasm. i got a ton of pics and by the end he was ready to throw the camera, lol. {img heavy}
